SantaThing

santathingThanks to a fun post written by Fyrefly, I found out about SantaThing, a wonderful Secret Santa type of book exchange facilitated by LibraryThing.  I received my SantaThing books yesterday and I’m so exicted!  I got Charity Girl by Georgette Heyer and The Dress Lodger by Sheri Holman.  I am loving Georgette Heyer these days (review of The Conqueror coming soon), so Charity Girl is right up my alley.  I haven’t heard of The Dress Lodger before, but it sounds really good.  Many thanks to my Santa.:)

I also had fun playing SantaThing, too.  I selected The Monsters of Templeton by Lauren Groff and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by F. Scott Fitzgerald.  She likes a combination of literary and historical fiction, so The Monsters of Templeton was the first thing that came to my mind.  To fulfill her literary fiction needs, I thought the combination of F. Scott Fitzgerald and a current Brad Pitt movie would hit the spot.  I’m looking forward to reading that myself next year.

I think that SantaThing was a huge success and I’m looking forward to participating again next year.  For the LibraryThingers out there, did you participate?  If so, tell me all about your loot!

Your SantaThing did a good job! I didn’t participate because I did the Secret Santa thing that Dewey and Nymeth organized and couldn’t afford to do both. Merry Christmas! I wish I had participated in that Secret Santa, too (not that I could have afforded both myself). Merry Christmas to you, Kathy!

I love SantaThing! I’m so glad they did it again this year; I get such a kick out of making suggestions, picking for my Santa-ee, and acting as a volunteer elf to pick for people whose Santas fell down on the job. (I’m still on board with organizing a recommendation-based challenge at some point next year, if you’re still interested, but I’d prefer to wait until after the holidays – I’ll be in touch!) You know I am! After the New Year sounds wonderful to me. 2009 is going to be The Year of the Challenge for me. :)

That’s awesome that you got such great books – I had mine shipped to my house, but I’m at my parents’ for the holidays, so I won’t get to know what my loot books are until probably the 30th. Hrmph. More presents to open, I guess. :) You have much more patience than I have. I would have had mine sent to my mother’s house. ;)

I participated! I got The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and Pastwatch: The Redemption of Christopher Columbus by Orson Scott Card. I’m not sure about the second but I can’t wait to read the first one! I picked out Shogun by James Clavell and Black Sun Rising by C.S. Friedman for my person. I had a lot of fun. I did it last year too and I want to do it next year! The Book Thief is something I would have loved, too. I had to look up Card. His name sounded familiar. I think my husband has read and (if I’m remembering correctly) enjoyed something he’s read. Sci-Fi/Historical Fiction could be interesting. I hope that it really surprises you, Meghan! Merry Christmas!

What lovely gifts! I didn’t participate this year, but would like to in the future. I love buying books for someone who really enjoys them.

I didn’t even know about SantaThing. I am going to have to make notes about all of these exchanges for next year. Happy Holidays to you!

The Secret SantaThing was a lot of fun, wasn’t it? It was fun selecting books for someone else. :-)

I didn’t participate in the gift swaps because I was already doing one through HFO, and couldn’t afford to do any others, particularly when you see some of the great gifts that were sent!

Hope you and your family had a lovely Christmas day!

Thank you again for such fantastic books! I’ve already finished Benjamin Button (looking forward to seeing the movie now to see how they flesh it all out!), and I’m probably going to start The Monsters of Templeton this week sometime.

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

Santa has been very good to me this year, with a surprising deluge of non-fiction, including The Prosecution of Bush for Murder. I guess I’ll start the new year with reading a lot of non-fiction. I also get False Colours by Georgette Heyer from Danielle for the giveaway!
