Ever since reading The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson, I’ve been a big fan.  A big enough fan that I could not keep silent when Entertainment Weekly, my celeb mag of choice, trashed it. Since then, I’ve had that great good fortune to be in contact with Andrew’s mother.  I don’t think that a child could have a nicer mother or a bigger fan. Yesterday she let me know that The Gargoyle is being short-listed for the Galaxy British Book Award! Take that, EW!  Go to www.galaxybritishbookawards.com/vote.asp and cast your vote today.

While you go and vote, why not listen to my current favorite song ~ Love Letter to Japan by The Bird and the Bee:

Oh my goodness, what a catchy song! You know it is going to infect my brain, and I’m going to have to download it on iTunes? As for Gargoyle, this is interesting. I read EW religiously, and trust it implicitly. It has never never, in the 5 years I’ve been reading it, led me astray. I saw the trashing of this book, in fact, they said it was the #3 worst book of the year! Therefore I avoided it. It might be an interesting experiment just to read it and see!

I haven’t read The Gargoyle but my book club shot it down! I still plan to read it at some point though.

That song you posted is such a happy little song! I have never heard of it, or them but I liked it.

The Gargoyle was by far my favorite book of the year, so I too was shocked to see it as #3 on EW’s worst list. The only thing that made me feel any better is that the worst, most disappointing book of the year (IMO)was ranked #2. I thought The Lace Reader could have been a wonderful, atmospheric book, but unfortunately story and character development were sacrificed for a “big twist” ending that was actually pretty predictable. Okay, rant over. Off to vote for Andrew Davidson.
