You may have already seen other posts about Book Blogger Appreciation Week this September 14 – 18. This is an event brought to life by Amy at My Friend Amy. The idea was born after she read a rather scathing article about book blogs on The Huffington Post. It debuted last year and was a lot of fun! I enjoyed being nominated for an award and hosting the award ceremonies for several awards. It was a time of giveaways and community. I think that we are so fortunate that Amy decided to make BBAW a yearly event. I will be sure to hold at least one contest. Last year’s contest was a Philippa Gregory scavengar hunt through my blog (I would bet there are still some Philippa’s that I didn’t remove…). Hopefully I can come up with something as creative this year. Mostly I look forward to celebrating life as and with my fellow book bloggers.
Nominations
In order for there to be awards, there have to be nominations. Not 10 minutes ago I made my nominations. There are some wonderful categories this year. Some of the nominations were no-brainers for me. For others I had a really difficult time selecting just one blog. There were also categories that I didn’t vote in because I don’t read blogs that would apply. I would be lying if I said that there wasn’t a category or two that I would be proud to receive a nomination. If you feel so inclined, I would really appreciate your vote in any category you see fit. Nominations are being accepted through August 15th, so just click on the Vote Now button to cast your ballet. Don’t worry though. There will be no hard feelings if you don’t nominate me. We want everyone to nominate the best blogs in each of the categories.
BBAW Meme
Amy posted a BBAW Meme on Sunday. Here are my answers to her questions:
1) What was the highlight (something that happened, a post, an activity, etc.) of BBAW for you last year?
If I had to pick a single highlight, it would be when everyone posted a thank you to Amy for organizing last year’s festivities. All the great feelings I had all week long culminated for me watching all of those posts pile up in my Google Reader. It wasn’t something we did spur of the moment, per se, but it was a quick, grass roots operation. It made me feel great that our community could so quickly rally around our champion and queen.
2) What is one new blog you discovered during BBAW last year?
I can’t tell you how much BBAW inflated my Google Reader. To be honest, it’s been long enough since then that I feel like I’ve been reading most of my blogs since forever. After looking back at what was going on last yera, I do know one blog in particular that I have enjoyed so much since last September ~ A Novel Menagerie. Sheri’s blog is so much fun. I don’t comment as much as I should (a universal problem I have), but her reviews and pop culture posts make me happy. She also makes the most wonderful buttons.
3) What tips would you share to help others get the most out of their BBAW experience?
Enjoy the week! Have fun checking out old and new blogs alike. Also know that each BBAW is a learning experience. If something doesn’t work well, it wasn’t meant to be that way. Provide feedback so that the next time around we can all do better.
That’s the news to date on BBAW from The Literate Housewife Review. It’s only a little over a month away and I cannot wait to celebrate!

I have discovered Sheri at A Novel Menagerie myself, and she is so much fun to follow! I’m not a big TV watcher, so Sheri is my hot line to everything going on there. Plus she reviews some great books, and shares so much of her life with us. I just love her!
LOL I can’t believe we have the same highlight!!
I bet you will come up with a fantastic contest. Thanks for all your support and kindness Jennifer!
Great post! BBAW was so much fun last year – participating in it was what really made me realize what a great community this is.
I’m with you, I also had a hard time trying to remember blogs I discovered as part of BBAW last year. That was so long ago in terms of my GR!
Great post – the more I read the more excited I become. I didn’t really know what to expect when I first heard about the BBAW but as I read the posts of those who have done this before and hear about the community building, I may have to take the whole week off from work…. LOL
I fear for my Google reader. I truly do. I have so many different feeds in my reader and I know that BBAW will only double them. It’s gonna be awesome!
Great post. The closer the BBAW gets the more excited I’m get: D I’m guilty of not commenting very much either though I’ve been trying to visit more blogs this past month. Much success this year and hope to see you in the nominations.
