Win a Copy of Ruined by Paula Morris

Cover of RuinedThere is something about fall that makes it feel like the perfect time of the year to read a ghost story.  Sure, there is Halloween, but almost as soon as September arrives I’m ready for all things spooky.  As if to affirm my feelings, Carl runs the R.I.P. Challenge through September and October.   So, when Dina from Big Honcho Media contacted me about Ruined by Paula Morris, I knew it would make for a great read for R.I.P.

The best part is that Big Honcho Media has offered to send a copy of Ruined to five of my lucky readers!  If you’re also participating in R.I.P. or you enjoy Young Adult fiction, you should enter this giveaway.  Giving away 5 copies is a first for The Literate Housewife Review and I’m really excited about it.  With six of us reading the book, I would like to coordinate a spooktastic conversation about the book on Twitter for as many of the winners as would like to participate.  It’s not a requirement to be entered in the contest, but I sure think it would be fun.

Would you be interested in reading this book along with me?  Here is the summary that Dina sent me:

When Rebecca Brown goes to New Orleans to stay with her voodoo-obsessed aunt, she finds the beautiful city haunted by the effects of Hurricane Katrina. Rebecca is also startled to discover a haunting of a different kind: near a graveyard one night, amid the Spanish moss and beneath the moonlight, she meets a ghost girl named Lisette, who has been dead for 150 years. Lisette helps Rebecca unearth an ancient mystery in her aunt’s house, along with some troubling historical truths. Meanwhile, Rebecca must juggle adjusting to her snooty new prep school, developing a serious crush on a handsome boy, and dealing with an elite group of popular girls who may be linked to the ghostly mystery themselves.

If that isn’t enough, check out this trailer.  In it Paula Morris discusses the inspiration for this novel.  Isn’t the idea that Katrina displaced ghosts interesting?  I think so.

The Giveaway

I’ve got my copy of the novel, so I’m eager to get this contest started!  To enter the contest, leave a comment here telling me what scares you the most.  Also let me know if you would be interested in participating in a Tweet Up at some point in October.

For two additional entries a piece, link to this contest using Twitter, Facebook, or your blog.  Just let me know so I can give you your extra entries.

This giveaway will open for two weeks.  I’ll draw the winners using List Randomizer and will announce them on Tuesday, September 22.  I’ll accept entries until Monday the 21st at 11:59 PM EST.

Good luck!

Sounds like a fantastic read. I LOVE anything that has to do with New Orleans. As for what scares me the most . . . I guess I would have to say when I’m in bed, home alone, and I hear a strange noise. That always gets to me!

Right now I don’t have a Twitter account so a Tweet-Up wouldn’t work for me.

I would love to read this one with you! I joined the RIP Challenge too and this would be great for that. My 17 year old daughter is “training” to be a ghost hunter and she would also love this book so I would share it with her. I’ll twitter with you too. What scares me the most is grave yards, they really creep me out. Thanks for the contest.

No need to enter me; I picked up a copy of a book after you mentioned it in one of your postings!

I’m not scared of ghosts, or anything spooky like that. What I’m most afraid of is heights. Yikes..gives me the shivers just thinking about it.

OMG, I am squirming in my seat over this one. What a fabulous fabulous cover! There is just no better place to act as a setting for a ghost story than N.O. So what scares me? The boring answer is heights, especially when I am not in control. Like if I am in the car and we are driving on a high bridge, or on a curvy mountain road, I literally start to shake and cry and have to put my head between my knees. I know, I am a big party pooper! Ghosts I can handle! rnawrot at cfl dot rr dot com

I’m not really scared of much; I do get very nervous when I have to drive in heavy highway traffic at night. This book sounds great, and I could share it with my teenage granddaughter.

What scares me the most is something happening to my kids. I don’t sleep good at night because that is one thing I worry about. Them getting up, getting outside. Someone breaking in. Let’s just say I get cranky by bed time. lol

I would love to get my hands on a spooky book for October and would be delighted to participate in a tweetup for it, depending on the date.

What scares me the most is those movies where the main character is in the foreground and the evildoer is behind them, walking past….like in that recent movie The Strangers…you only see the evildoer for a few seconds, but its enough to freak me out every time.

I’ve posted to my facebook account, twitter, and on the blog sidebar for you.

I’m not afraid of much when it comes to the typical scary things. I can handle any scary movie etc. Recently, I was in a car accident, so now I am kinda terrified of that. Everywhere we drive, I get paranoid and tense up. Definitely terrifying stuff!

Graveyards scare me the most! Along with ghosts….eek!
Actually the graveyard that this book takes place in is actually haunted! I have been there before on a field trip when i was in the third grade. I could have sworn I saw a ghost there! Actually the school that I went to is mentioned in the book in a not so good light. Yes, my school is the snooty prep school, its actually called McGehee. I am really interested to read all of the lies about my school because my school was a very accepting place.
Oh and I would love to follow you on twitter!
