The Sunday Salon ~ Tough Week

The Sunday Salon.com

It’s been quite a week here at The Literate Houseswife Review:

  1. Had to move from a semi-private cube to an open area workspace at work. I don’t like it, but I didn’t have much time to worry about it because…
  2. The strep throat and cough that I treated the week leading up to the National Book Festival turned into walking pnuemonia “territory” by Tuesday. I was off work from Tuesday afternoon until Thursday morning.
  3. Danny’s leg has been bothering him and it seems like it might be a nerve thing.
  4. Thursday morning I felt better, but quickly felt feverish and wore down after only a few hours at work. I worked from home Thursday afternoon and today.
  5. Emma, who had a cavity filled Thursday afternoon, came home from after school with a lip full of infection, a sore spot on her check at the sight of the injection, and her jaw on that side of her mouth is still swollen. The dentist didn’t call back, so I spent Saturday morning in the emergency room with her. She is on an antibiotic for the infection and the mark on her face was apparently an abrasion from holding her mouth open during the procedure.
  6. I’m now six reviews behind and still haven’t written anything about the National Book Festival (fabulous!). I think that it is a combination of being so tired and having had such a hard time writing my review of Her Fearful Symmetry.

At least I can report that I’m feeling better today and hope to go back to work tomorrow. I’m hoping this afternoon I’ll be inspired to write a few of those delinquent reviews.

I hope you had a healthier week than we did. Here’s to a better week ahead!

I guess it takes weeks like these to make you appreciate the good ones, eh? You poor thing. After the book fair, I got really behind on posts and reviews. I basically had to just sit my butt down and DO them. Sometimes it isn’t that easy though, is it? You need inspiration, which isn’t always at the ready.

And I think I would fire the dentist!

What a tough week! I sympathise since I persoanlly found working in an open plan office completely impossible – one reason why I work almost exclusively from home now. Though it’s tough being self-employed it has many non-financial benefits, like being able to go out reading on the Heath with my wife when we occasionally get a sunny day in London.

I had full blown pneumonia last year and was down for the count for over two months. It was tremendous. So I can totally empathize! Please take it easy and only do as much as you can without exhausting yourself, you don’t want to make it worse.

                                        Hi Jennifer,
Sorry to hear about your rough week and your daughter’s infection and swollen jaw. I found your blog because I was researching conversations on latex allergy. I’d like to echo Valerie’s comment and suggest that you check with your daughter’s pediatrician about getting tested for latex allergy.
Latex proteins in the exam gloves or dental instruments used by dentists can trigger an allergic reaction. Latex is also found in thousands of other products, including toys, foam mattresses, balloons and elastic threads in clothing. I work with a company called Vystar that has a new glove coming soon made with VytexNRL, an ultra-low protein latex material with significantly reduced levels of antigenic proteins that can cause latex allergy.
This week (Oct. 4-10) is National Latex Allergy Awareness Week, and there is a lot of information and resources available from the American Latex Allergy Association. Good luck with finishing all of your projects and hope you feel better.

As far as my family’s health, I pulled some ab muscles last week that just won’t heal as fast as I want them too. Then my son (who has had his seasonal flu shot) woke up with all of the flu symptoms yesterday, so it looks like we have the swine flu in our house now. We’re just waiting to see how it plays out. So far no one else is sick, but it means I’m pretty much stuck at home with bored kids all week. Just when you think you’re going to get something done. . . :)
