Literate Housewife Unscripted ~or~ My First Vlog

I finally put my thoughts together and made my first vlog on Monday.  I recently became a Friend of the Library and thought I’d talk about one things I love most about libraries.  Enjoy!

Bloopers:

  • The library that held the sale in question is part of the Roanoke Valley Public Library, not whatever it was that I said.
  • Apparently I’ve spent my life seeing the word sapling and reading it as “sampling” all my life.  I must work on that. LOL!

Your first vlog was definitely worth the wait. I love the reading. I read The Secret History for my book club and I remember that all of us loved it. I was never so smart as these kid in college, I can say that much. I hope you enjoy. Like you said, you can hardly go wrong with the prices at the library sales.

Fantastic vlog, Jennifer! I love library sales myself and I have The Secret History waiting on a TBR pile somewhere. ;) And I love that you read aloud. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone do that before in a vlog, but it’s obviously a great idea.

I also love library sales too and now that I volunteer at our local library, I, along with the other librarians, have first dibs on any books that come inn for the sale. It’s extremely tempting, let me tell you.

I have heard of The Secret History and while I don’t know if I will get to it (not that I don’t think it’s good, but I have too many other TBRs), I think my wife might like it. I’ll have to pick it up next time I’m at the library. Thanks for sharing about it.

Oooh, you are brave! And you did such a good job! And you cut your hair – I love it! I don’t know if I would ever be able to get my mug in front of my webcam to do such a thing, so I am in awe. Do more of these!

Jennifer, you did well. I enjoyed your first vlog, “samplings” aside. :-)

I have been meaning to read Donna Tartt’s books for forever I think. I appreciate your little taste of A Secret History and know I have this book somewhere on my shelves. Now to find it.

You did a great job! I love the blooper section which really weren’t bloopers at all. I haven’t done a vlog yet but I want to this year. At some point. The problem for me is that I have to wait for the kids to hit the sack and when they do, I am tired and look like hell :)

Thanks everyone! I had a good time doing this and used some time before the family got home in the evening to fit it in. I did get my hair colored and cut that day and I thank you for your compliments. LOL!

Nicole, I’m so glad you liked The Secret History! I can’t tell you how happy I was to find that little gem. It doesn’t look like it was ever read.

Jackie, isn’t it nice to get to hear the voices of bloggers you read regularly?

Meghan, thanks so much! If you get to a point where you’d like to read The Secret History, let me know. I’d love to try another read-along. It sounds like Kay might like to join us, too. :) No pressure, though. Regarding the reading, maybe that’s a little something I can incorporate into each of my vlogs. The first little bit of whatever it is I’m currently reading. That would be fun – and if I practiced beforehand, I might even stumble through it less. LOL!

Unfinished, becoming a Friend of the Library here brings me the same early bird book sale benefit. I cannot wait until the next sale!

Sandy and Rhapsody, thanks so much! I hope to do one a month at the very least. I think it’s kind of fun.

Kay, I wonder what other words I say wrong. Maybe we’ll find some more in my next vlog. LOL!

Ti, I think you’d look just fine after the kids go to bed. That’s when I’ll most likely do most of mine.

I love your vlog! Our library doesn’t sell books that cheap – the ones that I want are at least $5. I’m going to try to get you to say sapling the next time I see you!

Loved your blog! And I love the library sales and have blogged about them myself. I can’t believe the treasures I have found for 25 cents each…it is unbelievable. I feel so good when I make my purchases because I have gotten a tremendously good deal on my books AND the library has gained some much needed money!

Well HELLO Jennifer! So nice to see ya! That was really great. I enjoyed listening to your reading of the prologue for The Secret History. I have had The Little Friend on my shelf in three different houses. Maybe I should finally get to that this year?! LOL!
I just donated three recycle grocery bags full of books to my local library here in Prince William County today. It felt great and now I’m on Hubby to go through his books and give me a stack to donate for him too.

As a reader of your blog it is so nice to see you and hear your voice! So I’m sending you many greetings from Austria, I live quite close to Vienna actually! I have also picked up both Donna Tartt novels at a sale, but haven’t read any of them. Of course I also love library sales and am so looking forward to the warmer season now because of all the boxes full of books on the fleamarkets here. Hope to see more of you soon! Doris

Great first vlog. I must admit I thought you had black hair though because of your header. It’s funny, no one ever looks how I picture them. They are always completely opposite. I could never do a vlog I don’t think. Well first of all I don’t have webcam or anything but also I’m too self conscious.

One little hint though, when you want to show us the cover of a book, please hold it up longer. They kept flashing by, most of the time I couldn’t see it all and sometimes I only saw part of it.

Yay, your first vlog is wonderful!

We don’t get the early bird benefit with our Friends of the Library support, but I still enjoy the sales :)

I like the ‘blooper’ explanations; you’re too funny.

All you vloggers are amazing…you’re a natural in front of the camera. My voice would be all quivery and my face would be red.

I love your Vlog — way to go, Jen!! You should see the videos that I made and never put on my blog (horrible) AND I sound like a peppy cheerleader that did some sort of drug (yikes). Yours is great!
