TBR Cover Shots (ThankfulReading Mini-Challenge #2)

The mini-challenge posted today for Thankfully Reading by Candace from Beth Fish Reads really got me thinking.  First, I was excited because my current read isn’t compelling me at all this weekend.  It’s not the fault of The Winter Sea.  I thought Historical Fiction would do the trick, but not so much.  It’s time for me to set it aside in favor of something more exciting and fast-paced.  Second, I tried to figure out just how I would capture my TBR pile.  I pulled out my Flip camera thinking I would talk my way through it.  With giggling daughters and a hubby on the move, I knew that wouldn’t be very practical.  I started to organize my shelves because taking a picture would honestly embarrass me.  As I shifted and sorted, I pulled out the books most immediately on my TBR List.  That is when I decided to take cover shots for a Literate Housewife TBR fashion show. :)

I’m sorry I didn’t have the time to print up a program.  Hopefully you have your smartphone or a slip of paper ready just in case something on my TBR runway screams to be added to your TBR list.  Ready?  Good.  Let the show begin:

Cover Shots featuring Books I’ve Requested

In the First Shot…

The Anatomy of Ghosts by Andrew Taylor – I’ve been wanting to read Andrew Taylor for a long time now.  When this ARC was featured on Shelf Awareness I couldn’t resist.

The Cypress House by Michael Koryta – This is a book I accepted from Miriam at Hachette’s new imprint, Mulholland Books.  I have a feeling it will get my heart pumping. Cardio a la reading. :)

City of Tranquil Light by Bo Caldwell – This book tells the story of two young American missionaries who leave their lives to become Protestant missionaries in China.  They find love along the way.  I’m hoping this will be a sweet novel that teaches me some new things about China.

How to Buy a Love of Reading by Tanya Egan Gibson – The author pitched this book to me.  I’ve been looking for something like Special Topics in Calamity Physics.  Both the authors website and the setting remind me of it somewhat.  I’ve been wanting to read it ever since it arrived.

In the Second Shot…

Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick – After reading Hush, Hush, I wondered what happened next.  I had planned on renting this from the library until I saw it featured in Planned Television Arts featured it in their most recent blogger newsletter. I requested it and am really curious about the continued storyline.

Moonlight Mile by Dennis Lehane – This is another Shelf Awareness request.  I read Mystic River before I started blogging and I loved it.  I have never quite gotten back to another one of his novels and I figured this would fix that.

The Financial Lives of the Poets by Jess Walter – This novel was featured on The Olive Reader and I knew I had to read it.  It’s just the type of book that catches my attention.  I can’t really say why I’ve not read it yet to begin with.

The Virgin Widow by Anne O’Brien – This book is my latest Early Reviewer snag from LibraryThing.  It makes me feel like a lucky girl just having it on my shelf.

In the Third Shot…

Law of Attraction by Allison Leotta – This book is probably the book I’m going to pick up and start reading as soon as this cover shot fashion show is finished (I didn’t realize how long this post was going to be…).  The author is a sex crimes prosecutor and the novel is bound to be an exciting procedural.  Sold!

Everything I Never Wanted to Be by Dina Kucera – This is the only memoir on my TBR. I’m reading it as part of TLC’s book tour next month.  With four generations of alcohol and drug abuse in her family, the author went on to become a stand up comic.  I hope it’s as interesting as it sounds.

The Fates Will Find Their Way by Hannah Pittard – This book was one of the first pitched to me based on the survey HarperCollins asked bloggers to take.  I must say, this book definitely has potential as a great read.  It’s a February release, so I hope to begin reading it in the next month or so.

The Book of Tomorrow by Cecilia Ahern – The same is true of this book.  It was the second book pitched to me and I couldn’t say no.  I love the premise and I think the cover is really beautiful to boot!

Unsolicited Cover Shot

Salting Roses by Lorelle Marinello – Of the unsolicited books I’ve received recently, this book is the only one that captured my attention from the moment I saw it. Both the title and the cover appealed to me.  I also enjoy Southern fiction.  I plan on making time for this title very soon.

Cover Shots featuring Purchased Books

In the First Shot…

Elegies for the Brokenhearted by Christie Hodgen – This book had me at the cover.  When I walked into The Bookstore, this was the book that caught and kept my eye.  I’ve never heard of it before and even thinking about it excites me.

The History of Love by Nicole Krauss – Based on my selection of Elegies for the Brokenhearted, Sue hand sold me this book.  I couldn’t leave without it, either.  I’m planning on reading both books back to back so I can fully document my “The Bookstore Reading Experience.”

In the Second Shot…

Lancelot by Walker Percy – I first read Walker Percy in grad school. I fell in love with Southern Fiction.  Hollins University really was a perfect place to study it.  I bought this because I thought it was time to read some more of his work.

Collected Works by Flannery O’Connor – As I was finishing Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter, Rebecca from The Book Lady’s Blog was tweeting about her discovery of and love for Flannery O’Connor.  I swear I saw her tossing her panties at this dead woman. LOL!  I purchased this collection with a gift card because I’ve always meant to read her work.  Not only is she a Southern author, she was Catholic as well.  I have a feeling she’ll really speak to me.  So why haven’t I started reading it?  That’s a very good question.

So there you have it.  My TBR on the runway for you.  All pictures were taken on my unmade bed with my new Droid Incredible (LOVE) for an extra sexy atmosphere.

I think I went above and beyond the call of duty for this mini-challenge.  Oh well, I got swept up in all the sharing. :)

What’s the most exciting book on your TBR?

One’s I’m especially looking forward to on my shelves:
DELIRIOUS by Daniel Palmer, a psychological thriller
ONE TRUE SENTENCE by Craig McDonald, next in an incredible, unique series
THE SENTRY by Robert Crais I just finished. WOW!
SPEAK NO EVIL by Martyn Waites. It’s the first I have by Martyn and am psyched to check it out

O.k., that’s a small sampling. They are all exciting to me and I can’t wait to get to each one!

Great book fashion shoot. I love covers though most of the books I buy are now ebooks. Just not enough room for the paper ones. The Michael Kortya looks interesting as I enjoyed his most recent book.
I also love the cover for Elegies for the Brokenhearted.

What a list! Cypress House is on my short list as well. Met the guy at SIBA – an intense young man! And I would highly recommend The Financial Lives of the Poets. From the time I’ve spent with you, I think you would totally get this book.
