Where Are You Reading 2011

I can’t say what rock I’ve been hiding under, but I just this week discovered Shelia from Book Journey‘s Where Are  You Reading challenge.  The goal for this challenge is to plot the main setting of the books you read on a Google Map you create and maintain.  While there are prizes for reading at least one book per state, the real fun and, for me, appeal to this challenge is to see all the places you’ve gone during the year.

So, I’ve created my map and am ready and raring to go.  I’ve put a link to my map in my side bar if you’d like to track my progress.  Better yet, why don’t you come along for the ride?  You don’t have to blog to participate.  You just need to create your own map.

I do have one question for people who are proficient with Google Maps.  Mine is defaulting to a close up view of the US.  Now, there’s nothing wrong with the US, but I’d like the default view to be a world  view.  I made that the view when I created my map, but it went back to that view, which will make it difficult to see my overall progress.

I’m looking forward to the upcoming reading year.  I’m hoping that I’ll soon be able to add a pin for London (Tipping the Velvet) soon after the New Year. I must be careful not to finish it before midnight tonight so that it will count. LOL!

No matter what, happy reading in 2011!

Hi Jennifer — Happy New Year! I’m sorry I can’t help with the google maps thing, but I am super excited about the challenge! I told Sheila that most of my selections, if I looked at my bookshelf, would have something to do with rural places/the midwest, so I have to branch out geographically this year :) Happy reading!!!

I don’t know anything abt setting up a map but it looks like fun! I visited 14 states in 2010 and I was considering tracking it anyway and trying to hit more in 2011!
