There is something special about the bond between writer and reader. Nothing makes this more apparent than the the way these relationships are fostered via social media.
When Writers for the Red Cross was announced on Twitter, I knew I wanted to take part. At the same time, during a conversation with @BethFishReads about our ever increasing To Be Read (TBR) piles, I responded with, “To increase your TBR is to live.” With that innocent tweet came several requests for it to be made into a t-shirt. It didn’t take long for the idea to make it’s way round to becoming a way to contribute to the great cause underway by some of my favorite authors.
I am pleased to announce that there is a now a shop on CafePress dedicated to Writers for the Red Cross on behalf of the readers, most especially those who were involved with that “innocent” Twitter conversation. There are two designs with several variations available from which to choose. Please take a look and know that the commission earned from all of the t-shirts, mugs and tote bags you buy will go to Writers for the Red Cross. What could be better than displaying your love of books and reading all the while supporting such a wonderful cause?
As further incentive, if we sell 100 items, I’ll donate an additional $25! Please help support Writers for the Red Cross.

[...] If neither of these appeal to you, please consider bidding on one of the other items. Of, you can simply donate – if you give $25 or more you get to pick a free book! Need even more ways to help? Jennifer from The Literate Housewife started a Cafe Press store called Readers for the Red Cross, the proceeds of which go to Writers for the Red Cross. Go buy some cool stuff, or read her explanation. [...]
Interesting idea. Is there a “Writers for the Salvation Army”? Seriously, with the huge increase in the urban poor.
