March 2012 in Review

March was a huge bookish month for me. I read 11 books, mostly got caught up on my reviews, and started two audiobook endeavors. The more I think about it, March was an audiobookish month – and it isn’t even June yet.

The Armchair Audies

The Audiobook Publishers Association announced the nominees for the 2012 Audie Awards. I listen to as many audiobooks as I can, but when I read through the list of nominees, I listened to very few of them. I wanted to come up with a way to gear up for the awards in June in a meaningful way. After talking about my thoughts with other audiobook fans, I chose to listen to all of the nominees in a single category. In that way, I can at least make a fully educated prediction of the winner. What I thought might be two or three other participants has certainly blossomed. Check out the Armchair Audies page for more information. It’s not too late to join us if you’d like. Just let me know and I’ll add you to the list.

The A-List? No way! Creating a Listener’s List of Outstanding Audiobook Narrators

At the beginning of March, Audible announced a new series of audiobooks narrated by popular Hollywood actors. They call this series “The A-List Collection” and hope to draw new listeners into the audiobook fold with it. After giving it some thought and remembering a less than brilliant experience with an audiobook narrator by a Hollywood type, I had to say something about this. I want everyone to love audiobooks and the best way to share my passion is to point someone in the direction of a gifted professional audiobook narrator – and not a once and done type of performance. I’ve got a call out for the narrators that, like Jen said in her comments, could read the phone book to you. I’ve got plans brewing for this list. Please stop by and share your favorite audiobook narrators. Fear not if they’ve already been mentioned. There is no such thing as too much love when it comes to audiobook narrators.
