Listen Up! ~ Audiobook Week Post #5

This is the topic I’ve been waiting for. I have my places and my tricks, which aren’t really that clever, but I’m very interested in what other people do.

Twitter

I have a group of audiobook loving Twitter accounts that I follow pretty religiously. These accounts include trusted book reviewers, audiobook publishers, and narrators. I really need to create a list within Twitter and share it because I’d hate to leave anyone out. To get started, though, I suggest the following: @devourerofbooks @bethfishreads @jennsbookshelf @guildedearlobe @poofbooks @dogearedcopy @audiobroad @audiobkjkbx @audiofilemag and @audiobook_comm. I’ll update this post once my list is finished and send out a tweet, too.

Another great thing about Twitter is that if a follower knows you love audiobooks, they often will suggest them to you. That is how I first came across The Invisible Ones.

Websites

I follow as many blogs for audiobook reviewers as I can.

Audiobook Jukebox is a huge conglomeration of audiobook reviews written by bloggers. LOVE IT!

Audiobook Community is now on Facebook. Since then, I’ve run across a number of recommendations left by listeners in comments. It’s a great resource.

I have a Platinum subscription to Audible, so I pick up at least two audiobooks a month there. I get some decent suggestions there as well.

Publisher websites. I really enjoy stopping by the publisher’s websites each month. It gives me a feel for what they’re excited about.

Print

AudioFile Magazine, which is published bi-monthly, makes me happy each time it arrives in my mailbox. I love their articles and perusing the large section of reviews. They also have a great online resource. I think this subscription is well worth my money.

BookPage is offered by my local public library for free and you can guarantee I stop by at least once a month just for that. They have an audiobook column that I read every month.

Speaking of Libraries…

Just looking at my library’s new audiobook releases and spending time going through its audiobook stacks is a pleasure. That’s how I found The Peach Keeper. There’s something about seeing a physical copy that can make a title stick out.

I also like to attend the book sales held by my library system. There’s usually audiobooks in the mix. I’ve not had huge success there or at any other type of yard sale, but it never hurts to look.

There is one audiobook blog I’d like to highlight especially today. Our audiobook listening habits very rarely converge, but I find his reviews entertaining and informative. I look forward to his tweets about audiobook discoveries and thoughts each and every day. He keeps me at least somewhat in the know on sci-fi, fantasy, and paranormal side of the audiobook universe and in the event of the zombie apocalypse, I would trust him to keep my children safe. If you haven’t discovered Bob Reiss from The Guilded Earlobe, you must. He most definitely has the Literate Housewife Seal of Approval!

LOL, I’ve got to get my hands on The Invisible Ones now! Both you and @devourerofbooks have recommended this so strongly, I can’t ignore it! :-)

Oh, I didn’t even think to mention Twitter as a whole – which is actually where I hear the most talk of audiobooks and get the best recommendations!

And I second the nod to Bob at The Guilded Earlobe :)

          Thanks.

I really am touched and honored. Now I have something to add to my Wall of Pride Blog sidebar.

Sometimes I wonder what i did before I began the whole twitterverse. Running around and posting messages on community bulletin boards just isn’t the same.

I’m just terrible about Tweeting. I get on there when I’m sitting around and bored (and not reading) but that is about it. And i’ve heard so much about The Invisible Ones, I ordered it from the library a couple of days ago. I’ve got to see what all the fervor is about!
