The dog's story definitely gives an extra dimension to this book. I love books from the point of animals, and have read several. I'd love to read this one for several reasons: (1). It takes place in 17th. century France, a very interesting place and time; (2). It involves the lace industry and everyday craftsmen, and I enjoy books that take place outside of the milieu of the royal courts and high society; (3). And it includes an animals point of view which clearly resonates with me. So, please put me in the giveaway! Thanks.

I'm a little worried about the dog, too, but as others have said this seems like a wonderfully unique piece of historical fiction.
I found your discussion on women and perfection provocative. It made me think of an old boyfriend who's words have stuck with me (even if he didn't :) I'm a pretty classic type A perfectionist, and he used to say to me, "you ARE perfect. you are the perfect you, in the perfect place you need to be, right now." I do my best to remember that refrain as an alternative to my self-bashing. It can be liberating.

I've been hoping to win a copy of The Ruins of Lace and now you've gotten me very intrigued by the role of the dog in this story. I swore off animal stories early for the same reason as Iris. I hope this won't be too sad. Thanks for the interview and the giveaway.
