As of January 17th, Literate Housewife is officially 9 years old! There’s no doubt that my years as a blogger have been an adventure. I’ve met many wonderful new friends, readers, authors, audiobook narrators, and industry people both through online communication and in person. Because of this, I discovered a much broader bookish world and many dreams I didn’t even know I had in 2007 have come true. I’ve presented at the Audies for crying out loud!
My life is much richer and it is much changed. In the past 9 years my children have gone from toddlers/preschoolers to middle schoolers. I’ve been promoted twice and am about to embark on the biggest project my company has undertaken since I’ve worked there. I’ve gone on countless diets over these years, but joining the boot camp at my local gym has changed my life. I don’t feel like my day is complete anymore if I haven’t gotten a work out in. My blogging has changed, too. It’s waxed and waned over these years, but the past year has been the lightest year by far. Due to my changing family, job, and personal health and fitness goals, I don’t take as many free moments to write as I used to. Even Twitter is an after thought most of the time. My print reading life has slowed down as well. Even if I’m loving a book (such as The Opposite of Everyone by Joshilyn Jackson), it’s taking me two weeks to read it. I try to read a chapter a night before bed, but often I wake up in the morning trying to figure out exactly how far I got before the book dropped out of my hand. Thank God for my commute and audiobooks. They keep me feeling connected.
I have no idea what this year will bring me or the blog, but I’m looking forward to it. Even when Literate Housewife is quiet, my love of reading is always there. Here’s to the joy that can only be found in a good book.
