I've always wondered about the novel part too. I would love to hear the answer. Guess I should ask on twitter.

I was going to say pretty much what Lezlie says - I was familiar with Susan Holloway Scott as a romance author first. I think I've only read The Duchess, but I really enjoyed that because I'd just learned all about the main character for school and it was fun to see how she was portrayed in fiction. I like her romances, too. I'm interested to see how she tackles a real historical fiction novel but it looks like this isn't the one to start with!

I've read several books about indigenous people and their beliefs. I find them fascinating, one of my favorites is "And She Was" by Cindy Dyson, a novel thats set in the Aleutian Islands (Alaska). Here are a couple others I've read and found to be interesting:
Child of the Jungle by Sabine Kuegler (West Papua, Indonesia
Nine Hills to Nambonkaha by Sarah Erdman (Cote d'lvoire, West Africa
Swimming in the Congo by Margaret Meyers (Boonda, Africa
Don't Sleep, There Are Snakes by Daniel Everett (Brazil)

Happy Reading! Please add my name to the giveaway, I'd love to read this book. Thank you!

The one Scott book I read (The Duchess, I think it was called) struck me more like a romance novel than an historical. That's not a bad thing! And it's not surprising since Scott got her start as a romance novelist under the name Miranda Jarrett. (Her Harlequin Historicals that I read were really good!) I just wanted more "historical", and that's more about my taste than it is about her books.

My only exposure to others' spirituality has been glimpses into Native American rituals, etc. I admire the deep connections to nature itself.
Thanks for the giveaway.
